1. Who we are
isitdownstatus.com ("we", "us", "our") is a community-powered service outage detection platform. We help users check whether online services are currently experiencing issues based on anonymous user reports.
2. What data we collect
We collect minimal data to operate the service:
- Outage reports: When you submit a report, we store the service name, report type, and timestamp. We do not store your IP address — it is hashed (SHA-256 with a secret salt) before storage for duplicate-detection purposes only, and the original IP is never persisted.
- User-agent hash: A one-way hash of your browser user-agent string, used for deduplication. The original string is not stored.
- Usage analytics: Aggregate, anonymized page-view statistics (no personal identifiers).
3. Cookies
We use only essential session cookies required for the site to function. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics that identify individual users.
4. How we use your data
- To detect and display service outages in real time.
- To prevent spam and abuse via rate limiting.
- To improve the reliability and accuracy of outage detection.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Data retention
Hashed IP and user-agent data associated with reports is automatically deleted after 90 days. Aggregated hourly statistics may be retained indefinitely.
6. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Union or Ukraine, you have rights including access, rectification, and erasure of your personal data. Because we do not link any report to a personally identifiable user, we cannot retrieve data by individual. For questions, contact us at the address below.
7. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate the platform:
- Supabase — database hosting (EU region)
- Vercel — hosting and edge network
- Upstash — rate limiting (Redis)
