What Is My IP Address?

Your public IP address and network details

Detecting your IP…

What your IP address can tell you

Your public IP identifies your internet connection to the sites and services you use. This lookup also shows the approximate location, internet provider, network organization, and timezone associated with that address. It does not reveal your street address or private IP addresses inside your local network.

Common reasons to check your IP

  • Confirm whether a VPN or proxy is active.
  • Share the correct address for remote access or allowlisting.
  • Troubleshoot location-based content or login alerts.
  • Identify the ISP and network currently handling your connection.

Frequently asked questions

What is a public IP address?

A public IP address is the internet-facing address assigned to your connection by your internet service provider. Websites and online services use it to send data back to your network.

Is my public IP address permanent?

Usually not. Most home and mobile connections use dynamic IP addresses that can change after a router restart, network reconnect, or reassignment by the provider. A static IP stays the same and is normally an optional service.

Why does my IP location look wrong?

IP geolocation is an estimate based on provider routing and registration data. It may identify a nearby city, a regional network hub, or the location of a VPN server rather than your exact physical location.

Does this tool reveal my private IP address?

No. It shows the public IP address visible to websites. Private addresses used inside your home or office network, such as 192.168.x.x, are not exposed by this lookup.
