Common Reasons Slack Stops Working
- Slack workspace outage β messaging, calls, notifications, and file sharing can fail independently
- Slack calls and Huddles infrastructure separate from messaging β calls may fail while messages work
- Corporate firewall or VPN blocking Slack's required ports
- Notification delivery failure β messages are sent but push notifications don't arrive
- SSO/SAML provider outage preventing login to Slack via your company's identity provider
How to Fix Slack Not Working
- Check status.slack.com for a breakdown of which Slack components are affected
- Try Slack in a browser at app.slack.com if the desktop or mobile app is failing
- For call issues, check that your network allows Slack's media ports (UDP 22466 or TCP 443 fallback)
- If notifications aren't arriving, check notification settings in Slack β Preferences β Notifications
